Last Exit was an American free jazz supergroup formed in 1986, consisting of electric guitarist Sonny Sharrock, drummer Ronald Shannon Jackson, saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, and bass guitarist Bill Laswell. The band's debut album, Last Exit, was released on January 1st, 1986. Known for their uncompromising musical ferocity and improvised performances, Last Exit found a modest following among open-minded hardcore punk fans. Their live albums, including The Noise of Trouble: Live in Tokyo (1987) and Cassette Recordings '87 (reissued as From The Board in 1995), showcased their raw, energetic sound. In 1988, they released their sole studio effort, Iron Path, on Venture Records, a sublabel of Virgin Records. Last Exit's music was characterized by its volume and intensity, often pushing the boundaries of jazz and rock. The band's activities ceased in the early 1990s following Sharrock's death in 1994.
