Sérgio Assad, born on December 26, 1952, in Mococa, São Paulo, Brazil, is a guitarist and composer. He began playing guitar at a young age, learning popular Brazilian melodies from his father and later forming a duo with his brother Odair. At 17, they studied under Monina Tavora, a disciple of Andrés Segovia. Sérgio Assad's career took off in the United States with his debut in New York in 1969. He has released numerous albums, including Latin American Music for Two Guitars (1992) and Sérgio and Odair Assad Play Piazzolla (2004), which won a Latin Grammy for Best Tango Album in 2002. Assad's compositions, such as "Aquarelle" and "Tahhiyya Li Ossoulina", have earned him critical acclaim, the latter of which also received a Latin Grammy Award in 2008. He has collaborated with notable artists like Gidon Kremer and Yo-Yo Ma.
