Juan José Domínguez was an Argentine guitarist and composer born on October 23, 1951, in Junín. He began playing the guitar at age five and studied at the Academia Oliva before attending the Conservatorio Julián Aguirre. By age twelve, he had completed formal training in guitar, theory, and solfeo. Domínguez left his classical studies at age fifteen to pursue popular music, initially accompanying vocalists such as Rosamel Araya and Alberto Morán. Throughout a prolific career, he recorded over 130 albums, including solo projects like Un placer in 2002 and Mis tangos preferidos in 2003. Domínguez was recognized as a virtuoso for his unique technique involving three-string tremolos, which he developed while studying Francisco Tárrega's “Recuerdos de la Alhambra”. In 2005, he received the Konex Award as one of the best instrumentalists of the decade. A resident of Burzaco, he was named an illustrious citizen in 2007. Domínguez died in Buenos Aires on February 10, 2019.
