Fruteland Jackson was born on June 9, 1953 in Doddsville, Mississippi. He received his first guitar at age 12 and played in high school bands before studying at Roosevelt University. In the mid-1980s, after relocating to Biloxi, Mississippi, Fruteland Jackson immersed himself in blues music. His breakthrough came when he began educating children about blues music, earning him the nickname "Mr. Fruteland." He released his album I Claim Nothing but the Blues in 2000, which was followed by Blues 2.0 (2003). His album, Good As Your Last Dollar, was released in 2019.
