Hamdi Benani, born on January 1, 1943, in Annaba, Algeria, was an Algerian musician and singer. Encouraged by his uncle Mohammed Benani, a flutist, Hamdi Benani began his musical journey at a young age, winning his first singing prize at 16. His breakthrough came in 1963 with the remarkable performance of "Ya Bahi El Djamel," which launched his career as both a violinist and singer. Throughout his career, Benani released notable albums such as Ya Ahl Ellil Tahya Bikoum, Bahi El Djamel, and Min Chit Frikitti. He is known for revitalizing the Malouf genre by introducing modern instruments and new themes. Hamdi Benani passed away on September 21, 2020, in Annaba. His contributions to Algerian music were recognized with the Djadir of the National Order of Merit of Algeria.
