Author, composer, performer, multi-instrumentalist, Abdelazziz Bekhti alias Baâziz was born in 1963 in Cherchell, Algeria. Initially an educational assistant, his rebellious spirit and refusal to accept injustice led to his dismissal by the principal. He took his first steps on stage in 1989, after meeting Ksentini, a committed artist from whom he drew much inspiration. Accompanied by his guitar and harmonica, Baâziz evolved in a protest folk style, and released a cassette album naturally entitled Le Rebelle in 1992. In 1996, he released Malgré tout, on which we find the title "Le Chômage". In 1999, when Dorénavant, ça va être comme avant was released, his piquant wit was again in evidence, on the track "je m'en fous " to the tune of Renaud's"Hexagone". He reveals a more tender side, with the song "Algérie Mon Amour", featuring 32 two Algerian singers in exile, which became an anthem, hijacked by politicians. He created a buzz on television when he was invited to perform this song in front of politicians, but chose to sing "Waili, Waili ", taken from his second album, about those generals who steal power. This was followed by a period of banishment in Algeria, which he never ceased to denounce. Café de l'indépendance, featuring the hit " Djebel", was released from France. The album was censored in Algeria; in 2005, the compilation 10 ans de Châabi Rock 'n' bled was released. The artist disappeared from the radar, but released a single in 2021, "Ya Qualbi", and was back on stage in 2022, in Algeria accompanied by seven musicians for an exceptional concert.
