Shahla Safi Zamir, known professionally as Marjan, was born on July 14, 1948, in Tehran, Iran. She began her career as an actress at age 21 with the film The World of Hope. Her husband encouraged her to pursue singing, leading to her breakthrough with "Kavir Del," a cover of a Turkish song that gained significant popularity. Marjan collaborated with notable composers such as Parviz Maghsadi and Fariborz Lachini. After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, her career was halted, and she faced imprisonment for political reasons until 1990. She later moved to the United States where she continued her activism against the Iranian government and performed with the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran. Marjan passed away in 2020 in Los Angeles due to complications from surgery.
