Virginia Liston, born around 1890 in Louisiana, was an American blues and jazz singer. By age ten, she lived in New Orleans with her family and began performing in local theaters by 1909. From 1920 to 1923, Liston performed as a duo with her husband, pianist Sam Gray, known as Liston and Liston, on the Theatre Owners Booking Association (T.O.B.A.) vaudeville circuit. In 1923, Liston also made her first recordings for Okeh Records, recording with Clarence Williams and his Blue Five on "You've Got the Right Key, but the Wrong Keyhole" (1924) and "Early in the Morning" (1924). She also recorded with Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet. In 1927, she recorded "Cushion Foot Stomp" (1927) and "P.D.Q. Blues" (1927) with the Clarence Williams Washboard Band. Liston retired from show business in 1929 and moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she worked for a church until her death in June 1932.
