Mary Ramia (real name Mery Antonieta Ramia Garcés) was an Ecuadorian singer born in Quito on November 17, 1935, and she died in Quito on May 31, 2016. Her recorded legacy is most clearly documented through releases on Discos Fuentes, where she is associated with early-1960s romantic Latin repertoire in the bolero/balada lane. Her best-known release is the 1961 album Amor en Tinieblas, a 12-track set built around dramatic, orchestra-forward songs and heartbreak-first storytelling; the title track “Amor en Tinieblas” sits at the center of that record, alongside cuts such as “Tu Corazón y El Mío,” “Compréndeme,” “Paisaje,” and “Pobre Flor.” Much later, her catalog was repackaged as Amor en Tinieblas y Otros Grandes Éxitos (2015), which helped keep “Amor en Tinieblas” and other selections from her classic sessions in circulation.
