Tito Cortés, born Luis Alberto Cortes Bonnet on December 3, 1924, in Tumaco, Colombia, was a singer-songwriter known for his boleros. Raised by Leocadia Fermín, Cortés began his musical journey singing in the cabarets of Cali's working-class neighborhoods, accompanied by his guitar. His first recording, "Alma Tumaqueña", was released in 1951, marking the start of a prolific career. Throughout the 1950s and beyond, Cortés released numerous notable songs, including "Carnaval" by José Barros, "Reconciliación", "Derrumbes", "Dos claveles", "Esta noche", "Si te vas", "Mala mujer", and "Frivolidad". He also had a notable collaboration with Daniel Santos, who performed Cortés's composition "El cinco y seis" after an initial feud. Cortés passed away on July 18, 1998, in Cali. His musical legacy was celebrated posthumously with the release of the compilation album Historia musical de Tito Cortés - 40 Grandes exitos de taberna in 2012.
