The Naysayer was a US country rock band founded in 2000 by singer-songwriter Anna Padgett and former Retsin drummer Cynthia Nelson. The duo met at Wesleyan University and later collaborated after reuniting in New York City. Their debut album, Deathwhisker, was released on Carrot Top Records in 2000, followed by Heaven, Hell or Houston (2002), which featured a more robust sound. Subsequent releases include the EP Pure Beauty (2003) and full-length albums Kitten Time (2004) and Smoke Reality (2006). The band disbanded in 2006 after Padgett gave birth to her first child, leading her to pursue children's music under the name The Good Ms. Padgett.
