Gian-Marco Schmid, known professionally as Gimma, is a Swiss rapper and writer born on March 5, 1980, in Haldenstein. He began his musical career in 1999 with the recording Planet Strengelbach. Schmid released his debut solo studio album, Droga, Sex, Gwalt, Rap, in 2001. In 2006, he won the WM-Song Contest with the single “Hymna”, which reached number 6 on the Swiss chart. That same year, he released the album I gega d’Schwiiz, which debuted at number 13 and received a gold certification. His subsequent discography included the studio recordings Panzer (2007) and Mensch si (2011), both of which reached number 6. Schmid received the MTV European Music Award for Best Swiss Act in 2011. He also authored literary works including the 2015 autobiography Hinter dera Maska isches dunkel.
