Alfred Charles Sainty, known professionally as Russ Sainty, was born in April 1936 in Leyton, Essex, United Kingdom. He started his career singing with the Buddy Monroe Five and performed regularly at the 2i's Coffee Bar in Soho. In late 1958, he declined to record "Living Doll", which became a hit for Cliff Richard. Sainty passed an audition for the BBC in 1959, leading to regular radio appearances on programs including Saturday Club. He released several singles in the early 1960s on labels like Decca and His Master's Voice, though none charted. Notably, he performed at the California Ballroom in Dunstable from 1960 until 1965. In 2011, Sainty released his album Radio: Play That Song Again - The Complete Collection. He died on November 28, 2021, at the age of 85.
