Jimmy Clanton, born 2 September 1938 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was an American singer known for his contributions to swamp pop and R&B music. He formed his first band, the Rockets, while attending high school in 1956, and their breakthrough came with "Just a Dream", released on Ace Records in 1958 and reaching number four on the Billboard chart. This success led to appearances on Dick Clark's American Bandstand and tours with artists like Fats Domino and Jerry Lee Lewis. His career saw several notable releases, including "Go, Jimmy Go" (1959), which peaked at number five, and "Venus in Blue Jeans" (1962), which reached number seven. He was drafted into the US Army in early 1961 but continued to have chart successes with songs like "Don't Look at Me" and "Because I Do". He starred in rock'n'roll movies such as Go, Johnny, Go! and Teenage Millionaire. In May 1960, Philadelphia proclaimed the week of May 16 as Jimmy Clanton Week. He later became a disc jockey at WHEX in Columbia, Pennsylvania and was inducted into the Museum of the Gulf Coast Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2007. Two new albums emerged in the 2000s: Born Again (2007) and Everybody Needs Love (2014l).
