Holocaust, a Scottish heavy metal band formed in Edinburgh in 1978, was a key player in the "new wave of British heavy metal" movement. The group released their debut EP Comin' Through in 1982 before disbanding in 1983. After several lineup changes and a brief hiatus, Holocaust reformed in 1984 with John Mortimer taking over vocal duties. Their album The Sound of Souls, released in 1989, marked a shift towards longer, more complex compositions. Other notable albums include Covenant (1997), which was based on Stephen R. Donaldson's fantasy novel series, and Primal (2003). The band continued to release music into the 2010s with albums like Predator (2015) and Elder Gods (2019).
