She first gained attention as the lead vocalist of the house-pop ensemble Souled Out (originally Sold Out), who released the 1991 album The Magic of the Language of Music in Effect and several well-received singles within the dance community. In the early 1990s, after adopting the stage name Washington, she released a dance cover of "I Will Always Love You" in 1993, which peaked at number 12 on the UK Singles Chart, number 15 in Ireland, and number three in Spain; the same year she issued a dance version of "Careless Whisper" that reached number 45 in the UK and number 20 in Ireland. Washington signed with AM:PM in 1996, issuing the singles "Heaven" and "Everything", which went to number 28 and 30 respectively on the UK charts, recording Home to My Thoughts that remained unreleased until 2019 when it was issued digitally. In 2013, a new rendition of "Heaven" was released in collaboration with Stereolove and DJ James Fraser. Washington’s work has also appeared on the Eurodance compilation Dancemania Speed 2. Her career is marked by chart success across Europe and a lasting presence in the electronic dance genre.
