Ulrich Herkenhoff, born in 1966 in Osnabrück, Germany, is a composer and panflutist. He started piano lessons at age six and discovered the pan flute after a Gheorghe Zamfir concert. Following studies at the Richard-Strauss-Konservatorium München and training under Professor Jochen Gärtner, Herkenhoff became a soloist. His first recording in 1990 featured Romanian improvisations with Marcel Cellier. He inspired contemporary composers to create original pieces for the pan flute and contributed to film scores such as Der Herr der Ringe. Herkenhoff's awards include the 1992 Förderpreis des Gasteig Kulturkreises Munich, the 1996 Bayerischen Staatsförderpreis für junge Künstler, and the 2000 Echo-Klassik-Preis as Instrumentalist of the Year for his album Symphonic Cinema.
