Cannon’s Jug Stompers, a jug band from Memphis, Tennessee, was formed in 1928 by blues musician Gus Cannon. Influenced by the Memphis Jug Band, Cannon recorded his first tracks as Cannon’s Jug Stompers for Victor Records in January 1928, including "Minglewood Blues" and "Madison Street Rag". The band's success led to further recording sessions throughout 1928 and 1930. Their final session took place in November 1930, after which the band disbanded. Cannon’s Jug Stompers combined traditional blues with minstrel music. The group was later rediscovered during the folk revival of the 1960s, with "Walk Right In" reaching Number 1 on the charts when covered by The Rooftop Singers in 1963.
