Jack Warner, born Horace John Waters (1895–1981), was a British actor and novelty singer from London. Before achieving film stardom, he was a prominent music hall and radio entertainer, famous for his monologues and imitations. He is best known for portraying PC George Dixon, a role he originated in the 1950 film The Blue Lamp and portrayed in the television series Dixon of Dock Green from 1955 to 1976. Warner periodically released comic novelty recordings, often tied to his police persona. His 1958 single, “An Ordinary Copper”, was released by Oriole Records and saw multiple reissues. Between 1948 and 1953, he was repeatedly voted among the top 10 most popular British stars at the box office. He was appointed an OBE in 1965 and made a Freeman of the City of London in 1973. Warner died in London on May 24, 1981.
