Jacqueline Margaret Joyce, known professionally as Helicopter Girl, was born in 1969 in St Andrews, Scotland, to a Scottish mother and Ghanaian father. She began her career performing with the groups Mouth Music and Ambisonic before embarking on a solo path. Her breakthrough came with the 2000 single "345 Wonderful" and the release of her debut album How to Steal the World, which earned a Mercury Prize nomination. In 2001 she collaborated with Rod Stewart on "Don't Come Around Here" from the album Human. After a brief hiatus, she returned with the album Voodoo Chic in 2004, featuring the single "Angel City" that reached Number 82 on the UK Singles Chart. Subsequent releases included the album Metropolitan (2008) and the self‑released album Wanda Meant (2015). Throughout her career, Helicopter Girl has maintained a presence in pop rock and rock music, with her work recognized for its eclectic blend of soul, jazz, funk, and synth‑pop influences.
