Grigori Románovich Ginzburg was a Russian classical pianist and composer born on May 29, 1904, in Nizhni Nóvgorod. He studied under his mother and later entered the class of Aleksandr Goldenweiser at the Moscow Conservatory. Ginzburg received the fourth prize at the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 1927. He performed across Europe and became a professor at the Moscow Conservatory in 1929. His students included Gleb Axelrod, Serguéi Dorensky, Regina Shamvili, and Sulamita Aronovsky. Ginzburg utilized a playing style influenced by 19th-century performers such as Franz Liszt. His repertoire included various transcriptions and orchestral works. Ginzburg died on December 5, 1961, in Moscow. Posthumous releases included the compilations Russian Piano School: Goldenweiser & Ginzburg (2004), Grigory Ginzburg: Live Recordings (2006), and Grigory Ginzburg Studio Recordings (2010).
