Jeannie Robertson

Jeannie Robertson, born Regina Christina Higgins on October 21, 1908 in Aberdeen, Scotland, was a folk singer. Her father Donald was a piper and her mother Maria was a singer. In 1953, Hamish Henderson recorded her music at her home in Aberdeen, leading to significant recordings including "The Battle of Harlaw" and "Andrew Lammie". The following year she stayed in the London apartment of Alan Lomax where she swapped songs with Jean Ritchie, Margaret Barry, and Isla Cameron. These sessions were later released as The Queen Among the Heather (1975). Robertson's notable performances include appearances at the Blairgowrie Festival in 1965. She received an MBE in 1968, being the first folk singer and first traveller to receive this award. Robertson passed away on March 13, 1975.
