Osvaldo Pedro Pugliese, born on December 2, 1905, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was a pianist and tango composer. He began his musical journey by writing his first tango, “Recuerdo”, at the age of 19, which became a classic upon its recording in 1926. Pugliese formed his orchestra as a cooperative in 1939, debuting at Café El Nacional. His orchestra toured extensively, performing in countries such as the former Soviet Union, China, Chile, and Japan. Notable compositions include “La yumba” (1946) and “Ausencia” (1931). In 1985, at age 80, Pugliese performed a concert at Buenos Aires' Teatro Colón, receiving five standing ovations. His work earned him high cultural distinctions from various governments. Pugliese passed away on July 25, 1995.
