Charlemagne Palestine, nacido Charles Martin el 15 de agosto de 1947 en Brooklyn, Nueva York, es un músico y artista de vanguardia reconocido principalmente por sus composiciones minimalistas y actuaciones multimedia. Su innovadora obra incluye Four Manifestations on Six Elements (1973) y Strumming Music (1974), entre otras, en las que explora sonidos sostenidos y sobretonos creando paisajes sonoros envolventes. El viaje de Carlomagno Palestina por la música comenzó en un coro judío, lo que le llevó a ser carillonero en la iglesia de Santo Tomás de Manhattan. Esta experiencia sentó las bases de su característico "Golden Sound" Se adentró en la música electrónica con la llegada de los sintetizadores, especialmente los Buchla 100 y 200, bajo la tutela de Morton Subotnick. Tras trasladarse a San Francisco, su fascinación por la riqueza armónica del piano Bösendorfer le llevó a desarrollar una técnica única.
