Soultans se fundó en Alemania en 1995. La banda está formada por varios cantantes cuya formación cambia a lo largo de los años. Entre los miembros más conocidos figuran Femi Oladeji, Danny Campbell y Johan van Rooy. El proyecto se mueve en los géneros del R&B, el soul y el pop con influencias de producciones de pop urbano de los años 90. A partir de 1996, Soultans lanzó sus primeros singles en el mercado europeo del pop y el soul. La irrupción internacional llegó con la canción "I Heard It Through the Grapevine", una versión del clásico de Motown. El título alcanza las listas de éxitos en varios países europeos y se convierte en el tema más conocido del grupo. Le siguen otros singles como "Every Little Move" y "I Know", que consolidan su presencia en la radio y el dance-pop europeos. En 1997 se publica el álbum Love, Sweat and Tears. El álbum combina interpretaciones soul con el sonido pop contemporáneo de los años noventa.
