A decorated veteran of the stateside R&B and soul scene, Indiana singer-songwriter Kevon Edmonds (born on February 25th, 1958 in Indianapolis) emerged in the late 1980s as a co-founding member of the prominent vocal group After 7, who released a string of platinum and gold-selling albums via Virgin from 1989 to 1995. Breaking with the group in the late 1990s, Edmonds embarked on a number of solo projects soon thereafter. In 1997, he appeared alongside his younger brother, GRAMMY-winning producer Babyface, in the comedy film Soul Food, portraying a member of the fictitious band Milestone. The group, which also included acclaimed singers K-Ci and JoJo, managed to score a hit, with the soundtrack offering “I Care ‘Bout You” reaching #23 on the Billboard Hot 100. By 1999, Edmonds had recorded a debut solo LP entitled 24/7, which yielded a top-ten chart smash in the form of its title track and also included the familial collaboration “A Girl Like You” (featuring Babyface and Melvin Edmonds). Released through RCA and largely executive-produced by Edmonds himself, the album proved to be a minor success, peaking at #77 on the Billboard 200. A decade on, Edmonds returned with his second solo offering, the ten-track indie label effort Who Knew. Despite arriving off the back of an extended period of inactivity, the 2009 LP was warmly received by fans, claiming the #78 spot in the US. Edmonds reunited with his After 7 bandmates in 2016 for a new record entitled Timeless, which registered on the Billboard 200, serving as a testament to the group’s lasting legacy.
