Desaparecidos was an American punk rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. Formed in 2001, the group featured Conor Oberst on vocals and guitar, along with several touring musicians from Bright Eyes and other long-time friends of Oberst's. The band released their debut EP The Happiest Place on Earth in October 2001. They released their first album Read Music/Speak Spanish in February 2002 through Saddle Creek Records. Despite initial controversy over the timing of its release, the album gained a cult following and led to tours supporting acts like Jimmy Eat World and Motion City Soundtrack. Desaparecidos went on hiatus at the end of 2002 due to Oberst's increasing commitments with Bright Eyes. The band reunited in 2010 for a single show and later embarked on tours, releasing new material including "MariKKKopa" and "Backsell". In February 2015, they signed to Epitaph Records and released their second album Payola in June. The band's final tour was cut short in October 2015 due to Conor Oberst's health issues. Since then, Desaparecidos has not toured or released new music. Notable releases include the 20th-anniversary edition of Read Music/Speak Spanish and a live album Live at Shea Stadium, both released in 2022.
