The Badloves, an Australian R&B and soul band, formed in Melbourne in January 1990. Initially known as DC3, the group consisted of Michael Spiby on lead vocals and guitar, John "Jak" Housden on lead guitar, Stephen "Irish" O'Prey on bass guitar, John Spiby on keyboards and saxophone, and Chris Tabone on drums. After changing their name to The Badloves in 1991, they signed with Mushroom Records late in 1992 following a successful support slot for Hall & Oates. Their debut single "Lost" was released in March 1993, followed by the album Get on Board in July of the same year. The album peaked at Number 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart and won multiple awards at the ARIA Music Awards of 1994, including Best New Talent and Breakthrough Artist – Album for Get on Board, as well as Breakthrough Artist – Single for "Lost". Their highest-charting single was a cover version of The Band's "The Weight", featuring Jimmy Barnes, which reached Number 6 on the ARIA singles chart in December 1993. The band's second album, Holy Roadside, was released in October 1995 and reached the top 20. In 1997, after releasing the live album Everybody Everywhere, the band dissolved. They reformed occasionally for performances and releases, including a greatest hits album titled The Mushroom Tapes in November 2000 and several live shows between 2008 and 2014. The Badloves released their first single in over 20 years, "Soulbrothertruckin'song", in October 2019.
