Love Spit Love was an American alternative rock band formed in 1992 by former Psychedelic Furs members Richard Butler (vocals) and Tim Butler (bass). After the Psychedelic Furs went on hiatus, the Butler brothers sought a new musical direction, which led to the creation of Love Spit Love. They were joined by guitarist Richard Fortus and drummer Frank Ferrer, both of whom would later become notable for their work with other prominent bands, including Guns N'Roses. Love Spit Love's sound was characterized by a blend of post-punk, alternative rock, and elements of post-grunge, marked by Richard Butler's distinctive vocal style and introspective lyrics. The band released their self-titled debut album in 1994, which included standout tracks like "Am I Wrong" and "Change in the Weather." The album received critical acclaim and helped establish the band's presence on the US alternative rock scene. Their second album, Trysome Eatone, was released in 1997. This LP continued to build on their sound, featuring singles such as "Long Long Time" and "Fall on Tears." Despite the positive reception, the band struggled to achieve the same level of commercial success as their debut. Throughout their brief but impactful career, Love Spit Love contributed to the alt-rock genre with their innovative approach and emotionally charged music. Their song "How Soon Is Now?"—a cover of The Smiths' classic—gained significant attention and was featured in the soundtrack for the movie The Craft and the television show Charmed. By the late 1990s, members of Love Spit Love began to pursue other projects. Richard Fortus and Frank Ferrer eventually joined Guns N' Roses, while Richard Butler reunited with the Psychedelic Furs. Although Love Spit Love's active years were relatively short, their influence and contributions to the alternative rock landscape remain noteworthy. The band went on indefinite hiatus in 2000.
