Thanks to their energetic pop-rock repertoire, Stereophonics have become one of the most prominent bands on the Welsh alternative rock scene. The band was formed in Cwmaman in 1992 as a trio, with Kelly Jones on guitar and vocals, Richard Jones on bass and Suart Cable on drums and percussion. Their debut album, Words Get Around, was an instant success, reaching number six in the UK charts in 1997. Highlights included "Local Boy in the Photograph" (#51) and "Traffic" (#20). From 1999 onwards, the band enjoyed a string of successes: the next five albums, Performance and Cocktails (1999), Just Enough Education to Perform (2001), You Gotta Go There to Come Back (2003), Language. Sex. Violence. Other? (2005) and Pull the Pin (2007) all hit No. 1. Keep Calm and Carry On (#11 in 2009) was a relative commercial failure. On June 7, 2010, the band learned of the death of Stuart Cable, who had succumbed to his alcoholic excesses. He had left the band in 2003, leaving the drummer's position to Javier Weyler. He was replaced by Jamie Morrison in 2012. Stereophonics returned to the top of the charts with the album Graffiti on the Train (#3 in 2013) and its successor, Keep the Village Alive (#1 in 2015). Two years later, the band increases its discography with a new record, Stream Above the Sounds, which extends the performance, reaching #2 in the UK charts on its release. The band expects no less from Kind, which is released in 2019 and records the presence of George Drakoulias on production. It reaches number 1, as does its successor, Oochya! which is released in 2022. Back at the top of their game thirty years after their formation, the Welsh band returned to the studio to create Make 'Em Laugh, Make 'Em Cry, Make 'Em Wait (2025), which in turn reached No. 1 in the UK, with the lead single "There's Always Gonna Be Something" (No. 100). The musicians concentrate on the next step, a long-prepared world stadium tour, Stadium Anthems Summer 2025.
