Composing new songs for the next album
The big bang of Viima's birth was the founding of the band Lost Spectacles in Turku at the turn of 1998/1999. The band members were:
Päivi Kylmänen - vocals
Aki Laakso - guitar
Kimmo Lähteenmäki - drums
Jouni Salmijärvi - bass
Mikko Uusi-Oukari - guitar, keyboards
In addition to composing our own material, we also played prog covers of several bands. Over the years, there were changes in the lineup, Kimmo moved to keyboards and Mikko U-O focused on guitar. The band began to split as members moved to other locations. We thought it best to make an album with the material we had created, as if at the end of our career. The album
Ajatuksia Maailma Laidalta (2006)
saw the light of day when the band had already effectively broken up. The album was released under the name Viima, because the band had switched to Finnish lyrics.
Mikko U-O and Kimmo continued to play together and after the album was released it seemed logical to play the songs from it. The Viima line-up was assembled around the album:
Hannu Hiltula - vocals, flute, keyboards
Aapo Honkanen - bass
Kimmo Lähteenmäki - keyboards
Mikko Uusi-Oukari - guitar
Mikko Väärälä - drums
This began the bands more active period, leading to the next album
Kahden Kuun Sirpit (2009)
and participation in several theme and tribute albums. Over the years, the band has been more or less active. The only line-up change has been the departure of Kimmo and then
Risto Pahlama - lead vocals, keyboards
joining the band. The third album
Väistyy Mielen Yö was released in 2024.
We are currently (spring 2025) composing new material for the next album.
