Farnésio Dutra e Silva, known professionally as Dick Farney, was born on November 14, 1921, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was a jazz pianist, composer, and singer. He began playing piano at a young age and made his debut performance in 1937 on Radio Cruzeiro do Sul's Hora Juvenil, singing "Deep Purple". Farney's career gained momentum when he hosted Dick Farney, the Voice and Piano on Radio Mayrink Veiga. In 1946, after meeting Bill Hitchcock and Eddy Duchin, he was invited to the United States, where he had a Billboard chart hit in November 1947 with "I Wish I Didn't Love You So", reaching number 13. Farney returned to Brazil and hosted his own TV program, The Dick Farney Show (1959), and formed Dick Farney and His Orchestra. He passed away on August 4, 1987.
