Clara Ponty is a classically trained pianist, singer and composer whose diverse musical background is the source of inspiration for the development of her unique musical body of work.
Born in Paris and raised in Los Angeles, Clara began studying violin and piano when she was five. She wrote her first musical piece when she was eight and she won her first piano competition at the age of 11. The classically-trained pianist, who studied at Interlochen Arts Academy, Maryland Conservatory and USC in Los Angeles, exchanged competitive performing in her early twenties to focus on her artistic career.
She officially launched her career in 1997 with her self-titled debut album (now entitled “Glimpses of Paradise”) and her sophomore release entitled "The Embrace” (1999), both under Polygram/Universal Music. These two albums brought her international exposure especially for her beautiful original works for piano solo. She followed with a third album, entitled “Mirror of Truth” (2003) co-produced by her father, world renowned jazz-fusion violinist and composer Jean-Luc Ponty, who is also featured on the album, and a fourth jazzy album entitled “Echoes” (2010).
She has since recorded two albums “Into the Light" (2011) and “Face to the Sun” (2019), which feature her talents as a pianist, singer and songwriter.
She is that rare artist, whose enticing voice and virtuoso level playing fuses her classical heritage with jazz and pop rhythms into a seamless stream of refined creativity.
