Lutz Häfner, born in 1972 in Nürnberg, Germany, is a musician and saxophonist known for his contributions to jazz. He began playing saxophone during his school years at Sigena-Gymnasium and initially explored jazz-rock. After studying business briefly, he pursued music education from 1992 to 2000 at institutions including the Musikhochschule Mannheim and Köln. Häfner was a member of notable ensembles like the Bundesjugendjazzorchester and Sunday Night Orchestra. His discography includes albums such as Deep (2012) with pianist Rainer Böhm and No Lonely Nights. He has collaborated with artists like Torsten Goods, Till Brönner, and Die Fantastischen Vier, and worked as a producer for Roger Cicero and Max Herre. Häfner was appointed Professor of Jazz Saxophone at the Hochschule der Künste Bern in 2012. His awards include the European Jazz Competition finalist (1998), Internationaler Jazzpreis der Nürnberger Nachrichten (1999), and ECHO Jazz for Saxophonist of the Year (2013).
