Surfin' Bichos, a Spanish indie rock band formed in 1988 in Albacete, Spain, was composed of Fernando Alfaro (vocals and electric guitar), Joaquín Pascual (guitar and keyboards), José María Ponce (electric bass), and Carlos Cuevas (drums). The band's early work included two demo tapes, under the names Los bichos and Surfin' Jesus, before settling on Surfin' Bichos. Their breakthrough came with the release of their first EP, Gente abollada, in 1990, which featured the title track that became emblematic of their sound. The band's album, La luz en tus entrañas (2006), showcased Alfaro's dramatic lyrics and direct rock compositions. Surfin' Bichos gained critical acclaim and were chosen as the opening act for Nirvana's Spanish tour in 1992, solidifying their status as a pivotal band in the transition from 1980s music to the indie rock explosion of the early and mid-1990s.
