Pianist, flutist and composer Damien Groleau (b.1983) is a classical and jazz musician, whose career took off at the age of 16 after he won the French National Youth Music Contest (le concours national des Jeunesses musicales de France). Taught classical piano by Igor Blagodatov and Didier Lockwood, he graduated from the Montbéliard Conservatory in 2003. His principals influences are Errol Garner, Chick Coréa, Bill Evans, François Couturier, classical music, latin and jazz music in particular. Diverse portfolio includes collaborations with symphony orchestras, musicals (Les Misérables, Othello), and world music stars in among others Brazil, Tunisia, Algeria, the Netherland and the US. He is credited the scores on several French films and has toured extensively in Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Caribbean. While appearing on numerous recordings with other artists, he released three highly acclaimed jazz albums with his trio under l’Horizon violet.
