With his breakout Afrobeats single “Colorado” featuring Dai Verse, Zugo emerged in the early 2020s as one of Nigeria’s most promising rising stars. Produced by LoftyBeats, the 2020 hit not only put him on the map as an artist but also showcased his skills as an audio engineer—a craft he has mastered by mixing and recording most of his own songs.
Born Chukwuezugolum Tochukwu Okafor in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria, in 1998, Zugo’s musical journey began early. Singing in the choir and writing songs sparked his passion, but frustration with the quality of his early recordings drove him to learn audio engineering. Determined to perfect his sound, he took full control of his music production.
After secondary school, Zugo moved to Owerri to study Agricultural Economics, where he built a solid reputation both as an artist and an engineer, recording music for himself and fellow artists. It was here that he met super producer Lofty and Afrobeats sensation Dai Verse, forming a creative partnership that would later birth “Colorado.”
With Lofty’s production and Dai Verse’s addictive hook, “Colorado” became a defining moment in Zugo’s career, sparking a buzz that set the stage for his rise.
Zugo remains a force in the Afrobeats scene, consistently delivering timeless, high-quality music that resonates with fans. Known for his distinct style, meticulous songwriting, and sonic perfection, he has built a reputation for crafting nothing but classics—a true musical “Jeen-yuhs.”
