Biography

Afro-fusion singer, songwriter and record producer, Daniel Benson (also known as Buju and Bnxn), was born on May 14, 1997, in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. His journey into the world of music began with humble roots, singing in church and school choirs and his velvety vocals and catchy melodies quickly elevated him from an emerging artist to a shining star in the Nigerian pop music scene during the late 2010s. In 2018, he marked his debut with the track "Catch a Vibe," followed by "Spiritual" in 2019, a collaboration with Zlatan, earning him a Rookie of the Year nomination at The Headies in 2019 and a Revelation of the Year award at the 2020 City People Music Awards. In 2020, he signed a one-year deal with Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy's Spaceship Records, resulting in a remix of his 2019 hit "L'enu." Rebranding as Bnxn to avoid confusion with artist Buju Banton, he released the extended play titled Sorry I'm Late on October 27 , 2021, which featured guest appearances from the Nigerian Highlife music duo, The Cavemen, collaborating with Pheelz in March 2022 on the hit single "Finesse," which reached number 1 in Nigeria and the UK, earning him a silver certification and a Soundcity MVP award for Best Collaboration. In July 2022, he featured on the Jae5 song "Propeller" alongside British rapper Dave, which became Bnxn's first Top 40 single in the United Kingdom, entering the chart at number 38. Showing no signs of slowing down, he released the EP Bad Since '97 in the same year, showcasing his lush vocals and signature Afrobeats sound and featuring guest appearances from Wizkid, Olamide, and Wande Coal. The EP attracted considerable critical acclaim and charted across the UK, USA, and Nigeria. On September 4, 2022, Bnxn won The Headies 2022 Next Rated award, releasing his debut album, Sincerely, Benson, in 2023 with lead single “Pidgin & English” peaking in the U.S at number 22.
