Born in 1978 in Vitoria, Brazil, Bruno Mangueira appears regularly on the Brazilian and international scenes as a guitarist, composer, and arranger. He has performed alongside Brazilian artists including Zizi Possi, Leila Pinheiro, Toninho Horta, Nelson Ayres, and Filó Machado, and with international artists such as Phil DeGreg, Otmaro Ruiz, and Rick DellaRatta.
Mangueira has been featured as a soloist with symphony orchestras and big bands in Brazil and the United States. He has also arranged and been a musical director for numerous CDs, DVD, and concerts. His compositions have been performed by orchestras and big bands internationally.
His recordings as a soloist include the CDs Azeviche (2007), Bruno Mangueira (2009), Camburi (2013), Without Borders (2019), and Essência (2020). The latter two were produced in the USA, respectively in collaboration with pianists Phil DeGreg and Otmaro Ruiz. Essência was recorded in Los Angeles as a duo project with Otmaro Ruiz, one of the most important jazz pianists on the current scene, and is released on the American label Blue Canoe Records.
Bruno completed his doctorate in music at the University of Campinas, developing part of his studies at the University of Cincinnati (USA). His educational activities include the Sao Paulo State Music School, numerous guest master classes, and workshops in Brazil and at North American universities. He is currently a professor at the University of Brasilia, specializing in Brazilian and Jazz Guitar, Harmony, and Ensembles.
