New album 'Essence and Elements' now 🌬️
A folk-soul singer with a captivating voice, Awa Ly is just like her music: on a perpetual journey. After the highly acclaimed Five And a Feather (2016) and Safe And Sound (2020), she has announced her third album: Essence And Elements (May 2025).
Awa Ly, a Frenchwoman of Senegalese origin who has lived in Italy and the United States, has lived several lives around one common thread: music. After a stint in a choir in France and countless jam sessions in Rome - where she had an acting career that took her as far as Cannes - the polyglot singer accompanied the late, iconic Pino Daniele on one of his last world tours (2013). At the same time, she has surrounded herself with big names like bassist Greg Cohen (Norah Jones, Marianne Faitfull, Lou Reed, Tom Waits...) and sound engineer Florent Livet (Cassius, Phoenix...) to develop a jazz & blues sound with forays into folk, pop and even the Caribbean on her first EP. This was followed by Five and A Feather, a debut album produced by Jean Lamoot and Pascal Danaé (Rivière Noire, Delgrès...), with contributions from Faada Freddy. It includes the hits ‘Let Me Love You’ (5.7M listens on Spotify) and ‘Let You Down’ (6.3M listens on Spotify).
This was followed by Safe And Sound, produced by Polérik Rouviere and featuring such featurings as Arthur H, Delgrès, Piers Faccini, Anne Paceo, Moh Kouyaté... The spiritual dimension being an integral part of her universe, Awa Ly has structured her new album, Essence And Elements, around the four elements (Earth, Water, Air, Fire). Four cycles produced by four different directors. Nicolas Repac (No Format, Arthur H, Blick Bassy, Mamani Keïta...) for Earth. The Joséphine price 2024 nominee Lossapardo (Roche Musique, Dinos...) for Water. The Air with Grammy-nominated British producer Hannah V (Rihanna, Jessie J, JP Cooper, Stormzy, Yola...). And Léonie Pernet (Infine Music, Malik Djoudi, Acid Arab...) for Fire.
Awa Ly offers a quest to return to oneself, to what is essential, accompanied by a short film in four parts directed by the actress-director nominated twice at Cannes: Aïssa Maïga (Les Poupées Russes, Bamako, Marcher sur l'eau, L'écume des jours...). A truly immersive experience in which everyone is invited to connect with their senses using Nature, with a first extract, ‘My Essence’, scheduled for release on 12 March 2025.
A critical and public success, Awa Ly has given around a hundred concerts and continues to tour internationally (France, Italy, Germany, Senegal, Switzerland, Morocco, Cape Verde, Turkey, Romania...), from Parisian venues to the biggest events in the world, as shown by her programme at the Mawazine 2024 festival and at the Théâtre du Châtelet on 5 February 2025.
