Skálmöld, an Icelandic heavy metal band from Reykjavik, was formed in 2009 by Snæjbjörn Ragnarsson and Björgvin Sigurdðsson. Other members included Baldur Ragnarsson, Þráinn Árni Baldvinsson, Gunnar Ben, and Jón Geir Jóhannsson. After unsuccessful attempts to sign with Icelandic labels, Skálmöld released their debut album, Baldur (2010), in Iceland and the Faroe Islands through the Faroese record company Tutl Records. In 2011, they signed with Napalm Records who re-released Baldur worldwide, expanding their reach. Their second album, Börn Loka, was released in 2012. In 2016, Skálmöld released their fourth studio album, Vögguvísur Yggdrasils, which included songs inspired by the Nine Worlds of Norse mythology. The band's music is characterized by an epic Viking metal sound, influenced by bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Anthrax.
