Kim English, born on 6 September 1970 in Chicago, Illinois, was an American singer and songwriter. She began her musical journey singing in a gospel choir and was an active member of the evangelical Family Christian Center in Munster, Indiana. Her breakthrough came with her first single "Nite Life" in 1994, for which she collaborated with former Ten City members Byron Burke and Byron Stingily as producers. The track featured remixes by Armand Van Helden and Masters at Work, reaching notable chart positions, including number 35 on the UK Charts. Her debut album Higher Things was released in 1998, featuring hits like "Time for Love" (UK Chart Position: 48) and "Supernatural" (UK Chart Position: 50). From 1999 to 2007, eight of her tracks topped the Billboard Dance Charts, including "Unspeakable Joy", "Missing You", "Bumpin’ and Jumpin’", "Everyday", "Treat Me Right", "It Makes a Difference", "C’est la vie" and "My Destiny". She worked with notable house music producers such as Junior Vasquez, Razor n’ Guido, Wamdue Project, and Boris & Beck. She founded her own music publishing company, Simply English Music, and was signed to Nervous Records in New York. Kim English passed away on 2 April 2019, at the age of 48, following a diagnosis of kidney failure. In 2025, "Nite Life" was remixed by M-High.
