Lesley Rae Dowling, a South African singer-songwriter from Stellenbosch, began her career in 1980 when she was discovered by artist manager Paddy Lee Thorp. She released her self-titled album in 1981. Her subsequent albums include Unravished Brides (1982), Split (1983), Myths and Legends (1983), When the Night Comes (1986), and Images (1989). Many of her works were produced and co-written by Tully McCully. Dowling’s music garnered numerous South African awards, including Sarie, SAMA, 3M Scotty, and FNB SAMA awards. She declined international opportunities in the early 1980s due to the cultural boycott of South Africa during apartheid. In 1994, she released the single "Possession."
