Dale Kavanagh was born in 1958 in Halifax, Canada. She studied guitar at the University of Toronto and Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel under Oscar Ghiglia, and attended masterclasses with members of the Juilliard String Quartet, Emerson String Quartet, and John Cage. Kavanagh's career began to take shape as she performed on major music and guitar festivals worldwide and gave over 1000 concerts in more than 40 countries, often performing with her husband in the Amadeus Guitar Duo. As a soloist, she collaborated with orchestras such as the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and the Berliner Symphoniker. From 1999, Kavanagh served as a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold, initially in Dortmund and later in Detmold itself. She is a recipient of several international awards, including the Segovia Competition (Spain, 1987), International Guitar Competition Gargnano (Italy, 1988), International Guitar Competition Neuchâtel (Switzerland, 1986), and the International Scandinavian Competition (Finland, 1988).
