Tigerstyle, a Scottish folk-hop group formed in Glasgow in 1997, originated from brothers Raj Singh (Kulraj Singh Burmy) and Pops (Amritpal Singh Burmy), who were born to a Sikh family with Punjabi heritage. The duo combined traditional Punjabi folk influences with hip‑hop and electronic elements. Their initial breakthrough came with the creation of Desi Bombsquad Sound System, a DJ collective that nurtured the Scottish bhangra scene, before adopting the name Tigerstyle, inspired by Shaolin Tiger Style and the martial art Gatka. In 2000, they released the album The Rising, and singles such as "Nachna Onda Nei", a bhangra remix of Michael Jackson’s "Billie Jean", which entered the UK charts at number 62. The track was later featured on Britain’s Got Talent IN 2008. The band signed to Nachural Records, the label launched Panjabi MC, and went on to collaborate with artists including Lisa Maffia, Raghav, and Bollywood music directors Pritam, Sachin Jigar, and Ram Sampath. Tigerstyle performed on a John Peel session, the Electric Proms Asian Network gig, and the Glastonbury Festival’s BBC Introducing Stage, and they produced the album Digi‑Bhang in 2013, which marked a fusion of bhangra with electronic dance music and was later performed live at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
