Mankind, a disco band from the United Kingdom, was formed in 1978 and consisted of engineer Don Gallacher, keyboard player Mark Stevens, guitarist Dave Christopher, bassist Dave Green, and drummer Graham Jarvis. The group's breakthrough came with their disco rendition of the Doctor Who theme music, which peaked at number 25 on the UK Singles Chart. This single was backed by "Time Traveller" and released in 1978. Mankind's journey began when Gallacher, inspired by Meco's "Star Wars Theme," decided to create a disco version of the Doctor Who theme after his son suggested it would be popular. The band recorded their debut single in just twelve hours at Gaumont Studios in Clapham, London. Despite initial distribution challenges, the single gained traction and was eventually picked up by Pinnacle Records for wider distribution. Mankind's success led to appearances on Top of the Pops, where they performed with visuals including swirling Daleks and the TARDIS. The band continued to release singles such as "Chain Reaction" (1979), "Dark Star Angel" (1980), and a sequel to their debut single, "Dr. Who (The Sequel)". Mankind disbanded in 1986.
