Andrea Parkins was an American composer, sound artist, performer, and improvisational musician based in New York. She received a BFA from Tufts University and an MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. Parkins released the albums One Great Day... (1996) and Cast Iron Fact (1996). Her work became known for inventive explorations on the electric accordion, generative sound processing, and arrangements of objects and sound. Notable albums included Faulty (Broken Orbit) (2009). Parkins collaborated with musicians such as Nels Cline, Jim Black, and Fred Frith. She was presented at venues including the Whitney Museum of American Art and The Kitchen, and she received grants from Meet the Composer and the New York State Council for the Arts.
