The Peppermint Rainbow is an American sunshine pop group from Baltimore, Maryland. The band formed in 1967 under the name "New York Times" and played local gigs in the mid-Atlantic states. In 1968, they were signed to Decca Records through talent agent Alan White and producer Paul Leka, who changed their name to The Peppermint Rainbow. Their debut single "Walking in Different Circles" b/w "Pink Lemonade" did not chart. However, their second single "Will You Be Staying After Sunday" reached number 4 on KHJ on April 2, 1969 and spent 14 weeks on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 32 on May 3, 1969, selling over one million copies and receiving a gold disc. The song also reached number 21 on the Cash Box Top 100 and peaked at number 19 in Canada. Their appearance on the television quiz show The Generation Gap further boosted their visibility. After recording three more singles which did not chart, including "You're The Sound Of Love"; after these releases they disbanded in 1970. Posthumously, the chorus of the latter tune was re-arranged and used as an ID jingle for various radio stations featuring love songs prominently on their playlist.
