Taufiq Qureshi, born in 1962 in Mumbai, India, is a percussionist and composer. The son of tabla player Alla Rakha and brother to Zakir Hussain, Qureshi began his career in his 20s with the world music band ‘Surya’ in 1986-87. He collaborated on notable albums such as Global Drum Project (2009 Grammy Award-winning) and Remember Shakti. Qureshi's unique rhythmic language, adapting tabla syllables to African drums like the djembe, has made him a sought-after rhythm-programmer in studio recordings. His contributions span film background scores, TV serials, ad-jingles, and albums. He has been recognized with awards including Gold at the Cannes Film Festival (2010–11) for Best Music for the Indian Railways jingle and Gold at the London International Awards - Las Vegas (Nov 2013) for Original Music for the Nike jingle "Parallel Journey". His discography includes albums such as Rhydhun (2000), TaDhaa - An Expression of High Energy (2011).
