Ashit Desai, born on May 16, 1951 in Baroda, Bombay State (now Vadodara, Gujarat), India, is a singer, composer, and musician. He learned music from his parents and earned a Diploma in vocal music from M.S. University of Baroda before moving to Mumbai. Desai's career involved composing scores for dramas, dance ballets, TV serials, and films. A significant career moment occurred when Pandit Ravi Shankar enlisted him to compose music for the Asiad and coordinate cultural events. He achieved acclaim for his music direction in the Hindi television serial Chanakya on Doordarshan and contributed devotional songs to Richard Attenborough's film Gandhi. Desai has received several awards, including the All India Radio's Best Singer Award in 1969, the Gujarat State Award in 1976, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2017.
